Video Conferencing Is Hot !!!

A recent article in the St. Charles Business Record confirms what we have been seeing here.  Videoconferencing is a hot application.  From court reporters to medical practices everyone is seeing the benefit of extending services to the hard to reach.

Remote depositions allow lawyers to travel to their local court reporters office or even just join a multi-way conference right from their conference room instead of boarding a plane.  Remote court reporters armed with a laptop and HD webcam go to the witness wherever they are. Roving reporters travel from the hospital bed to the state penitentiary to set up a deposition over a public internet connection.  Lawyers save time and travel dollars by joining the call from their boardroom or visiting a video enabled court reporters office.

Better medical care is made more possible, accessible and affordable for remote communities. For some US residents, accessing mental health care in remote areas is a challenge that's being answered with inventive approaches. "Rural” conjures up images of cornfields or open prairies, but psychiatrists and mental health professionals are concentrated in metropolitan areas. This means the highly specialized providers are not always available outside of the 50 NFL markets. Enterprising psychiatrists provide examples of different ways to bring care to far-flung residents.  Trading a couch for a HD monitor a highly sought after specialist can meet with a patient who has nothing but a computer and Skype.  Social workers become care extenders to the remote population.
